SANSEA is a wahine-owned small business, locally crafted by Chelsy on the island of Kaua'i est. 2017. SANSEA is a collection of hand-picked shell jewelry and accessories designed and inspired by the Hawaiian Islands.
A little bit about myself... Aloha! I am Chelsy, an entrepreneur, full time college student, former certified nurse aide, Kapi'olani CC graduate, surfer, artist, and small business owner. I love dogs, surfing, creating art, trying new foods, traveling, and going to the beach. I am born and raised from the island of Kaua'i. I was raised in Hawai'i since birth and my entire life, raised by two local parents that are surfers, so you can only imagine how much time I spent near the ocean growing up. One of the first things my parents ever taught me is how to swim. Once I became a confident swimmer, my parents introduced me to a whole new world... the ocean. I spent everyday of my childhood at the beach near the ocean. Picking shells, rolling in the sand, surfing, swimming, picking 'opihi off the rocks, bodyboarding, diving for shells, and doing pretty much all the things every Hawai'i kid did at the beach growing up. Of all the fun things, surfing and collecting shells stuck with me throughout the years and are my absolute favorite things to do in my free time. I always knew I wanted to be a jeweler. My passion for collecting shells & crafting shells into my own jewelry first began as a child. At age nine, I explored the world of jewelry making, thanks to my mom because she was a jeweler at the time. I began making beaded string bracelets and shell rings. I used some cheap glue from the hardware store and would glue shells onto ring molds. Fast forward a few years, I spent my early teen years alongside my mother at craft shows and art walks showcasing her jewelry and shell art. Many craft shows and several years later, I began making my own jewelry & with the support of my amazing friends, family, and loyal customers, my small business Sansea evolved.
The vision of Sansea is to offer jewelry pieces and accessories that are affordable and made with high quality materials. As a jewelry lover myself, it was always hard to find locally made jewelry that hit all the checkmarks in being affordable, high quality, and water safe. It is my vision and mission to provide these three standards: quality, affordability, and water resistant jewelry. I use 14k gold fill metals and sterling silver combined with a unique arrangement of hand-picked shells to create all your pieces. Each and every shell is sourced from the beaches of Kaua'i. All shells are hand picked on the beach or found in the ocean while diving! I dedicate lots of time to cleaning, organizing, and sorting each shell before beginning the process of jewelry making to ensure its up to its best standard and quality. I love what I do and I am thankful that many of you love my creations! It is truly a blessing.
SANSEA is a one-woman owned business. Every task such as running Sansea's social media platforms, photographing content, and designing your pieces are all done by one set of hands! Every step of your order from start to finish (ordering materials, designing, crafting, packaging, and shipping your order) is done by myself, by hand. I, Chelsy, am extremely appreciative and beyond grateful to every single one of you that has contributed in any way to support my creations, dreams, & business as a whole. As a full time college student, your purchases support all of my educational expenses.
To contribute back to my home and community of Hawai'i, I make annual donations to local organizations such as the Kaua'i Humane Society. This is in honor of the animals in need and in honor of my sweet dog Kona, that passed away in May 2024. Kona was truly a blessing to my life and lived a long, happy 11 years of life.
As of March 2025, I will begin donating to a few new local non-profit organizations this year. All updates about donations and community contributions will be posted on my Instagram story/page. Mahalo
